There are characters you can select, and obviously the whole point in the game is to win.Since its team arena, it has more modes than the original Quake III Arena as it doesnt have it.Both Quake III Arena and Team Arena are connected, as it shows you play in other games.Example: Arena has a option to play team arena, and team arena has a option to play arena.Anyways, try it whenever you can.. very addicting, tough to master and fun for hours, play with a friend in the room and take turns at beating the tracks. I use an Xbox360 controller it's very hard with a keyboard to be percise on this game WHICH YOU HAVE TO!! (you can play with a 360 controller on most games because "PC is Microsoft" and you just bought another controller from logitech or something??). Was great for 9 generations until the game would not offer a spouse until I was 51, and then they couldn't conceive. The game is over if you don't have any children to pass on to.All the hours I spent getting to 98% completed on "trophies" was wiped out. I wish I had never played this game.. Really great idea, but poorly implemented. Especially the population cap of 90 is extremely annoying. I understand that it used to be neccesary then when this game first came out, but they should have left an option for the user to increase that cap.Way too overpriced. I can't recommend it for its current price.I only bought it because I used to play it as a kid.. PURE AWESOMENESS! Controls are a bit tricky but once you master the controls, this game gets very intense! I have WAY more time in-game than Steam shows as it is playable while offline...not many games offer offline play these days. I bought it back in the day on sale for $2.49 but would gladly pay the $9.99 standard price since the game is so much fun!. To get the most out of this you will need to play it for quite a while, and those of you that do will no doubt find the extra features rewarding – if you only dabble with the game this is not an essential addition.
